Metatone tonic is a vitamins and minerals supplement formulated to help restore health and vitality after illnesses, such as cold and flu, or when you are feeling tired and run down.

For example, flu symptoms typically last about a week, but the most severe symptoms only occur for two to three days (though it might feel like an eternity). You might continue to experience fatigue, weakness, and cough for another week after you recover.

Each 5ml of Metatone tonic contains the following active ingredients;

  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine Hydrochloride) 500mcg
  • Calcium glycerophosphate 45.6mg
  • Potassium glycerophosphate 45.6mg
  • Sodium glycerophospate 22.8mg
  • Manganese glycerophospate 697mcg

It is advised you speak with your doctor before taking Metatone if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How should I take Metatone tonic?

The recommended dose of Metatone tonic is as follows:

Adults and children over 12 years old: Take before meals. One or two 5ml spoonfuls two or three times a day. Do not take more than 30ml each day.

Children over 6 years old: Take before meals. One 5ml spoonful two or three times a day. Do not take more than 15ml each day.

Who is it not suitable for?

Anyone who has allergies to the ingredients in Metatone tonic and children under the age of 6.

Does Metatone tonic help with COVID-19 recovery?

Yes, Metatone tonic contains some vitamins and minerals that studies have shown to be beneficial in COVID-19 prevention and recovery. A study that investigated the effect of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine Hydrochloride) a major ingredient in Metatone tonic as adjunctive therapy, reported that it may have potential survival benefits in critically ill patients with COVID-19. Additionally, it was associated with a lower incidence of thrombosis.

What are the side effects of Metatone tonic?

Unlike blood tonic, Metatone tonic is generally well tolerated by most people, however, like all medicines some people may experience side effects.

Stop taking this medicine if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
  • Skin rash.

The above symptoms may indicate you are having a severe reaction to this medicine.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.

What happens if I overdose?

Metatone tonic contains potassium and overdose can cause serious or life-threatening side effects. Other vitamins and minerals may also cause serious overdose symptoms if you take too much. Potassium toxicity can cause acute cardiovascular changes with ECG abnormalities. Besides cardiovascular effects, neuromuscular manifestations in the form of general muscular weakness and ascending paralysis occur.

Metatone tonic overdose symptoms may include:

  • Increased thirst or urination
  • Severe stomach pain
  • Vomiting
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Black and tarry stools
  • Hair loss
  • Peeling skin
  • Tingly feeling in or around your mouth
  • Changes in menstrual periods
  • Weight loss
  • Severe headache
  • Severe back pain
  • Blood in your urine
  • Pale skin
  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Severe drowsiness
  • Slow heart rate
  • Shallow breathing
  • Weak and rapid pulse
  • Confusion
  • Muscle weakness
  • Cold and clammy skin
  • Blue lips
  • Seizure (convulsions).

What should I avoid while taking Metatone tonic?

Avoid taking Metatone tonic and other multivitamin products at the same time unless your doctor tells you to. Taking similar products together can result in an overdose or serious side effects.

Avoid the use of salt substitutes in your diet. If you are on a low-salt diet, ask your doctor before taking Metatone tonic. Do not take Metatone tonic with milk, other dairy products, calcium supplements, or antacids that contain calcium. Calcium may make it harder for your body to absorb certain minerals.

Can diabetic people take Metatone tonic?

No, people suffering from diabetes should avoid Metatone tonic because it contains sucrose 1.436 g and glucose syrup 0.455 g per 5 ml which could cause a spike in blood sugar in some people.

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking Metatone tonic. It may be harmful to your teeth.

Can you take Metatone tonic if you take high blood pressure medication?

Although studies indicate that the presence of potassium in Metatone tonic may help lower blood pressure, you should not take Metatone tonic if you are taking high blood pressure medication without discussing it with your doctor or health care provider.

Does Metatone tonic increase appetite?

Yes, Metatone tonic can restore appetite and energy. In studies, women who take thiamin the major active ingredient in Metatone tonic experienced significantly increased appetite, energy intake, body weight, general well-being, and decreased fatigue.

Does Metatone tonic cause constipation?

No, in most people, Metatone tonic does not cause constipation. The presence of manganese which is helpful in maintaining the functioning of the digestive tract in this medication can improve the absorption of fat in the process of digestion, and also reduce issues like constipation and bowel discomfort.

How long does Metatone last once open?

Once opened, use within 8 weeks. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use Metatone Tonic after the date (month and year) printed after “EXP” on the box or bottle label. If the expiry date has passed, take the product back to your pharmacist for safe disposal.

Important safety information about some of the ingredients of Metatone Tonic

This product contains amaranth (E123) which may cause an allergic reaction. If this happens, stop taking the medicine and get medical help straight away. This medicine contains sucrose 1.436 g and glucose syrup 0.455 g per 5 ml. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.

It may be harmful to your teeth. This medicine contains 438 mg of alcohol (ethanol) in each 5 ml per dose which is equivalent to 11%w/v. The amount in 5 ml of this medicine is equivalent to 11 ml beer or 5 ml wine.

The alcohol in this preparation is likely to affect children. These effects may include feeling sleepy and changes in behavior. It may also affect their ability to concentrate and take part in physical activities. The amount of alcohol in this medicine can affect your ability to drive or use machines. This is because it may affect your judgment and how fast you react.

If you have epilepsy or liver problems, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. The amount of alcohol in this medicine may alter the effects of other medicines. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines.

 If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. If you are addicted to alcohol, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per 5 ml, that is to say essentially ‘sodium-free’.
