Urovec Capsules: Ingredients, Uses, Benefits, Use Dosage, Side Effects, Interactions
What is Urovec?
Urovec Capsules is a combination medication in Mexico containing tetracycline, sulfamethoxazole, and phenazopyridine as active ingredients. Urovec capsule is used in the treatment of urinary tract infections such as pyelitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis, urethrotrigonitis; as a prophylactic in the pre and postoperative period and in instrumental urological examinations.
Tetracycline is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Tetracyclines probably penetrate bacterial cells by passive diffusion and inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with protein synthesis or by destroying the membrane.
Sulfamethoxazole is also an antibiotic and is effective against both gram negative and positive bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli. Sulfamethoxazole stops bacteria from making dihydrofolic acid.
Phenazopyridine is excreted in the urine where it exerts a topical analgesic effect on the mucosa of the urinary tract. This action helps to relieve pain, burning, urgency and frequency. The precise mechanism of action is not known.
In combination, tetracycline + sulfamethoxazole + phenazopyridine work in synergy in the Urovec capsule to treat urinary tract infections and relieve symptoms because phenazopyridine is compatible with concurrent antibiotic therapy, and its analgesic properties should improve the patient’s comfort until antibiotics can control the infection. Because of its analgesic properties, it should decrease the need for systemic analgesics and other medications.
Each capsule of Urovec contains:
- Tetracycline: 125 mg
- Sulfamethoxazole: 50 mg
- Phenazopyridine 250 mg
How should Urovec Capsules be taken?
Follow the directions on the package or prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor or healthcare provider. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Drink plenty of fluids while using this medication unless your doctor tells you otherwise. For the best effect, take Urovec Capsules at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take this medication at the same time(s) every day.
Continue to take Urovec Capsules until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection.
Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
