Bio Complete 3 Reviews: Ingredients, Uses, Benefits, Side Effects
What is Bio Complete 3?
Bio Complete 3 is a dietary supplement that utilizes a three-pronged approach to digestive health and weight management. It combines prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to balance the gut microbe and bring about healthy change. It’s also claimed that Bio Complete 3 can aid in weight loss, boost energy levels, improve digestive issues, and suppress junk food cravings.
Probiotics generally refer to consumable cultured foods and drinks that contain good bacteria. Prebiotics are dietary materials these bacteria feed on. Postbiotics are healthy byproducts naturally produced by probiotics as part of their life processes. Studies show that among adults, probiotics or prebiotics are the third most commonly used dietary supplement after vitamins and minerals.
What are the ingredients in Bio Complete 3?
Bio Complete 3 contains three main active ingredients namely; CoreBiome™, Sunfiber®, and ProDURA®. The inactive ingredients are; microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, silica, and magnesium stearate
Is Bio Complete 3 FDA approved?
No, The FDA does not “approve” dietary supplements because it does not approve foods. FDA is not authorized to review dietary supplement products for safety and effectiveness before they are marketed. The manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements like Bio Complete 3 are responsible for making sure their products are safe BEFORE they go to market.
If the dietary supplement contains a NEW ingredient, manufacturers must notify FDA about that ingredient prior to marketing. However, the notification will only be reviewed by FDA (not approved) and only for safety, not effectiveness.
Manufacturers are required to produce dietary supplements in a quality manner and ensure that they do not contain contaminants or impurities, and are accurately labeled according to current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) and labeling regulations.
If a serious problem associated with a dietary supplement occurs, manufacturers must report it to FDA as an adverse event. FDA can take dietary supplements off the market if they are found to be unsafe or if the claims on the products are false and misleading.
What are the benefits and side effects of Bio Complete 3?
Probiotic therapy has demonstrated promising efficacy for the prevention of diseases, as evidenced by a very strong treatment effect in favor of probiotic therapy in two recent meta-analyses. In addition, the use of prebiotics or postbiotics may be potential alternatives to the use of live probiotic organisms.
The microbiome functions like any ecosystem – survival of the fittest – so the bugs that survive in your gut are the ones that have plenty to eat. So eating prebiotics and probiotics can help increase the number and diversity of organisms in our microbiome in our gut, this can help reduce the growth of pathogenic microbes living in our gut, aid digestion, boost the helpful chemicals that our gut bacteria produce (more on that below), and prime our immune system.
Scientists have also identified hundreds of postbiotic chemicals that are produced in the microbiome and play many different roles in protecting your health. They include:
- Vitamins B and K help to maintain cell health and help with blood clotting, respectively.
- Short-chain fatty acids help to maintain your gut lining, act as signals to your body and brain, influence your metabolism and have anti-inflammatory effects
- Antimicrobial molecules that kill harmful microbes
- Bacterial fragments and cells can prime your immune system to help fight off infections.
However, safety concerns continue to plague blends like Bio Complete 3. According to a review by consumer reports, a study in the Annals of Internal Medicine sounded an alarm about the lack of scientific proof to support their safety. In the study, researchers analyzed 384 randomized controlled trials (the gold standard of research studies) designed to test the efficacy of probiotics and prebiotics for various clinical conditions. What they found is that surprisingly few of them took a serious look at potential harm and adverse effects.
Of the 384 trials, only nine adequately reported key safety components and one-third of them gave no information on harms at all. The field of probiotic safety is characterized by a scarcity of studies in contrast with the long history of the use of these ingredients.
While serious side effects are unlikely in healthy people taking Bio Complete 3, those who are immune-compromised, elderly, or critically ill in particular should consult a doctor before taking these supplements.
