Oprah Winfrey Reveals Use of Weight-Loss Medication as Part of Healthy Lifestyle Transformation

Media icon Oprah Winfrey has confirmed that she incorporated a weight-loss medication into her health and fitness journey, as reported by People magazine. Winfrey, known for her openness about struggles with weight fluctuations, shared details about her recent approach to achieving a healthier lifestyle.

Winfrey’s weight-loss journey took a significant turn after undergoing knee surgery in 2021. She embraced a regimen that included regular exercise, notably hiking with increasing distance goals. The media mogul expressed feeling stronger, more fit, and more alive than she had in years.

Beyond physical activity, Winfrey implemented lifestyle changes, such as consuming her last meal at 4 o’clock, drinking a gallon of water daily, and adopting the Weight Watchers principles of counting points. Despite being aware of weight-loss medications, she initially believed she had to prove her willpower to herself. However, her perspective changed after a realization during a panel discussion with weight-loss experts in July.

Winfrey admitted that she had been blaming herself for her weight struggles and acknowledged the impact of a predisposition beyond mere willpower. Describing obesity as a disease related to the brain, she decided to consult with her doctor and was prescribed a weight-loss drug.

While Winfrey did not disclose the specific medication, recent popular options include Wegovy and Zepbound in the United States. She emphasized using the medication as a tool to manage weight consistently, moving away from the yo-yoing cycle.

The media mogul expressed relief and redemption at the existence of medically approved prescriptions for weight management, dispelling the stigma associated with it. Winfrey has now shed seven pounds, approaching her goal weight of 160. Emphasizing that the journey is not about the number on the scale, she underscored building on the progress made since her surgery two years ago.

“It was a second shot for me to live a more vital and vibrant life,” Winfrey concluded, signaling a transformative phase in her ongoing health and wellness journey.
