What is Relaxium?

Relaxium is a sleep supplement that was developed with a blend of natural ingredients for promoting falling asleep and staying asleep. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled human clinical trial, participants who used these ingredients reported a 71% improvement in their ability to sleep, 70% mood improvement and reduction of stress, a 53% boost in daytime energy, and an overall improvement in quality of life.

According to its promoters, Relaxium Sleep combines clinically researched and proven ingredients that help to reduce sleeplessness, stress, and anxiety, boost daytime energy, and enhance focus and concentration.

What are the ingredients in Relaxium?

The ingredients in Relaxium Sleep include:

Melatonin: Melatonin is a hormone made in the body. It regulates night and day cycles or sleep-wake cycles. Melatonin in supplements is usually made in a lab. The hormone melatonin plays a role in your natural sleep-wake cycle. Natural levels of melatonin in the blood are highest at night. Some research suggests that melatonin supplements might be helpful in treating sleep disorders, such as delayed sleep phase, and providing some relief from insomnia and jet lag.

L-Tryptophan: L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that is necessary for making proteins. It is naturally found in red meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy. L-tryptophan is important for many organs in the body. L-tryptophan is not made by the body and must be consumed from the diet or supplements. Science has shown that L-tryptophan in doses of 1 g or more produces an increase in rated subjective sleepiness and a decrease in the amount of time it takes you to get to sleep. New studies indicate that tryptophan, at a dose of 1 gram taken 45 minutes before bedtime, will decrease the time taken to fall asleep in those with mild insomnia and in those with long sleep latency.

Valerest: This is a herbal ingredient patented by the American Behavioral Research Institute for herbal supplements targeted at treating or managing sleeping problems.

Sensoril ashwagandha extract: Relaxium contains ashwagandha, one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, which is a traditional form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing. People have used ashwagandha for thousands of years to relieve stress, increase energy levels, and improve concentration. Some evidence suggests it may help with sleep issues, a study in 50 adults ages 65–80 found that taking 600 mg of ashwagandha root per day for 12 weeks significantly improved sleep quality and mental alertness upon waking compared with a placebo treatment. Additionally, one review of five high-quality studies found that ashwagandha had a small but significant positive effect on overall sleep quality.

Magnesium glycinate, oxide: Magnesium glycinate is formed from elemental magnesium and the amino acid glycine. Your body employs this amino acid in protein construction. It also occurs in many protein-rich foods, such as fish, meat, dairy, and legumes. Glycine is often used as a standalone dietary supplement to improve sleep and treat a variety of inflammatory conditions, including heart disease and diabetes. Magnesium glycinate is easily absorbed and may have calming properties. It may help reduce anxiety, depression, stress, and insomnia.

Chamomile extract: Chamomile is a herb that comes from the daisy-like flowers of the Asteraceae plant family. It has been consumed for centuries as a natural remedy for several health conditions. Chamomile has some unique properties that may benefit the quality of your sleep. It contains apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to certain receptors in your brain that may promote sleepiness and reduce insomnia, or the chronic inability to sleep.

Passionflower extract: Relaxium also contains passionflower (Passiflora incarnate), a climbing vine with white and purple flowers. The chemicals in passionflower have calming effects. Early studies suggest it might help relieve insomnia and anxiety. It appears to boost the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in your brain. This compound lowers brain activity, which may help you relax and sleep better.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA): Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a non-proteinogenic amino acid and is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain. GABA’s stress-reducing and sleep-enhancing effects have been established. Not much is known about the effectiveness of GABA supplements such as Relaxium. In fact, experts don’t know how much GABA actually reaches the brain when consumed as a supplement or food. But some research suggests that it’s only small amounts.
