Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet is a South African pain medication manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. It is used for ear pain, sinus congestion, rhinitis, headache, toothache, joint pain, and other conditions.

Each Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet contains chlorpheniramine maleate 2mg, codeine phosphate 10mg, paracetamol 500mg, and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30mg as active ingredients.

How Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet works

Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet works by increasing the pain threshold and increases the blood flow across the skin, heat loss, and sweating.

•          Narrowing the blood vessels to decrease swelling and congestion.

•          Blocking H1-receptor sites on tissues.

•          Broken down by the liver into morphine.

What is Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet used for?

Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet is used for the treatment, control, prevention, & improvement of the following diseases, conditions and symptoms:

•          Ear pain

•          Sinus congestion

•          Rhinitis

•          Headache

•          Toothache

•          Joint pain

•          Periods pain

•          Fever

•          Nasal congestion

•          Allergy

•          Hay fever

•          Common cold

•          Watery eyes

•          Itchy throat/skin

•          Anaphylactic shock

•          Relief of mild to moderately severe pain

How is Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet taken?

Adults: 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.

Children 6 to 12 years: Half to 1 tablet every 6 hours. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours.

Warning: This medicine may lead to drowsiness and impaired concentration which may be aggravated by the simultaneous intake of alcohol or other central nervous system depressant agents.

This medicine also contains codeine which can cause addiction if you take it continuously for more than 3 days. If you take this medication for headaches for more than 3 days, it can make them worse.

What are the side effects of Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet?

The following is a list of possible side effects that may occur from all constituting ingredients of Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet. This is not a comprehensive list. These side effects are possible but do not always occur. Some of the side effects may be rare but serious.

Consult your doctor if you observe any of the following side effects, especially if they do not go away.

•          Feeling of sickness

•          Skin reddening

•          Allergic reactions

Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet Precautions

Before using Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet, inform your doctor about your current list of medications, over-the-counter products (e.g. vitamins, herbal supplements, etc.), allergies, pre-existing diseases, and current health conditions (e.g. pregnancy, upcoming surgery, etc.). Some health conditions may make you more susceptible to the side effects of the drug. Take as directed by your doctor or follow the direction printed on the product insert. Dosage is based on your condition.

Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. Important counseling points are listed below.

•          Acute pancreatitis

•          Addison’s disease

•          Ask a doctor before use if you have any breathing problems, glaucoma, or difficulty urinating

•          Asthma

•          Avoid alcohol and other sedatives while on this medication

•          Avoid driving a car or operating machinery

What medications can interact with Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet?

If you use other drugs or over-the-counter products at the same time, the effects of Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet may change. This may increase your risk for side effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that your doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions.

Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet may interact with the following drugs and products:

•          Alcohol

•          Amitriptyline

•          Antianxiety agents

•          Anticholinergics

•          Antiemetics

•          Antihistamines

Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet – Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet is a contraindication. In addition, Sinutab Sinus Pain Extra Strength Tablet should not be used if you have the following conditions:

•          Acute or severe bronchial asthma

•          Children under the age of 4 years

•          Hepatic impairment

•          Hypercarbia

•          Hypersensitivity

•          Hypersensitivity to codeine
