How Long Does Duromine Stay In Your System?
What is Duromine?
Duromine is a brand of phentermine available in Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Singapore among others. Phentermine is a stimulant and is available if you have a prescription. Because taking Duromine comes with a risk of dependence, it is considered a controlled substance in many countries. It’s chemically similar to the stimulant amphetamine.
A healthcare professional may prescribe Duromine if you have obesity, defined by a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater. Healthcare professionals may also prescribe it if you have excess weight with a BMI greater than or equal to 27 and have at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes. However, a healthcare professional will likely recommend other weight loss strategies first, such as exercise and a calorie-reduced diet.
In Duromine, Phentermine is combined with a resin that slowly releases the phentermine so that the effect of Duromine lasts all day.
How does Duromine work?
Duromine belongs to a class of drugs called anorectics, also known as appetite suppressants. Taking Duromine helps suppress your appetite, thereby limiting how many calories you eat. Over time, this can lead to weight loss.
While the exact way Duromine reduces appetite remains unclear, the drug is thought to act by increasing neurotransmitter levels in your brain. Neurotransmitters — the chemicals norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine are your body’s chemical messengers. When your levels of these three chemicals increase, your feeling of hunger decreases.
However, you may build a tolerance to the appetite-suppressing effects of Duromine within a few weeks. If that happens, speak with the healthcare professional who prescribed it.
How long does Duromine stay in your system?
There are several factors that come into play when estimating how long Duromine will stay in your system because every patient has physiology unique to them. Here are some major factors you should consider when trying to understand how long Duromine will stay in your body:
• Age: Typically, the younger you are, the more efficient your body functions are. The more efficient your body functions, the faster Duromine will be removed from your system.
• Amount: The higher the dose of Duromine you have been taking, the longer Duromine will take to be removed from your system.
• Genetics: Genes predispose people to different metabolic functions, which is a key factor in how your body processes medications like Duromine. For this reason, your genetic makeup comes into play when estimating how long Duromine will remain in your system.
• Kidney and liver functions: The liver and kidneys eliminate everything you ingest, and Duromine is no exception. If your liver or kidneys are damaged, it will most likely take longer for your body to remove the Duromine from your system.
• Metabolism: Your metabolism determines how quickly you process foods, liquids, and drugs such as Duromine. If your metabolism is slow, it will take longer for your body to process and eliminate Duromine from its system than someone with a fast metabolism.
• Usage frequency: The longer you have been taking Duromine, the longer it will remain in your system. For example, it will take longer for someone who has taken Duromine for several years to remove Duromine from the body than someone who has only been taking Duromine for a few months.
Phentermine the active ingredient in Duromine is absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and reaches peak concentrations in the blood in three to 4.4 hours, by which time you should start feeling the effects, alerting you that the drug is working. Phentermine takes about three to five days to build up in the system (to what is called a steady-state), which is why some people report not feeling its full effect until being on it for several days.
Duromine has a half-life of about 20 hours. The half-life of a drug is the time it takes for the amount of a drug’s active substance in your body to reduce by half. This depends on how the body processes and gets rid of the drug. It can vary from a few hours to a few days, or sometimes weeks. About 94 to 97% of a drug will have been eliminated after 4 to 5 half-lives. Thus, it follows that after 4 to 5 half-lives, the plasma concentrations of a given drug will be below a clinically relevant concentration and thus will be considered eliminated.
Blood: Duromine is detected via a blood test for up to 24 hours.
Urine: Duromine is detected for one to four days by the SAMSHA 5-panel amphetamine test. Urine tests are the most common, so it’s fairly safe to stop taking Duromine a week before the drug test and expect it to not show up on the test.
Hair: The hair follicle drug test can detect Duromine for several months.
How to flush Duromine from your system fast
It is recommended to taper Duromine use rather than immediately stopping. If you suddenly stop using this medication, you may have withdrawal symptoms (such as depression, and severe tiredness). To help prevent withdrawal, your doctor may lower your dose slowly. Withdrawal is more likely if you have used phentermine for a long time or in high doses.
Duromine will generally be out of your system about two days after the last time you take it. Phentermine is stored in body fat and burning fat may support elimination. That said, there is no healthy way to speed up this process. If you are expecting to be tested for Duromine, disclose that you are taking it or stop using it prior to being tested. People prescribed Duromine for weight loss often expect to take it for several weeks. Plan ahead.
