Cerumol Ear Drops: Ingredients, Uses, Benefits, Side Effects, Interactions

Cerumol Ear Drops is a dual action drop that helps to gently break down ear wax by softening and loosening wax and clearing the ear canal. Wax can build up and block the ear canal. Wax blockage is one of the most common causes of hearing loss.

The wax in your ears is made by glands in the skin of your outer ear canal. The wax and tiny hairs in these passages trap dust and other materials that could damage deeper parts of your ear, such as your eardrum.

However, in some people, the glands produce more wax which may harden in the ear canal and block the ear, causing an impaction. When you try to clean the ear, you may instead push wax deeper and block the ear canal. For this reason, healthcare providers recommend against trying to reach into your own ear to clean it.

Symptoms

Some of the common symptoms of excess wax in your ears are:

•          Earache

•          Fullness in the ear or a sensation that the ear is plugged

•          Noises in the ear (tinnitus)

•          Partial hearing loss, may get worse

What are the ingredients in Cerumol Ear Drops?

Cerumol Ear Drops contains arachis oil a refined oil from peanuts (Arachis hypogaea) to help lubricate the ear wax and chlorobutanol, an antibacterial agent, which also helps to loosen the wax. This unique oil-based formula works between the wax and the ear canal to provide relief.

Each ml of Cerumol Ear Drops contains Arachis Oil (Peanut Oil) 57.3 % w/v Chlorobutanol (Chlorbutol) 5.0 % w/v. Propylene Glycol Dicaprylocaprate, Butoxyl, Turpentine Oil, and Chlorocresol.

NB: The New formulations of Cerumol Ear Drops no longer contains Arachis oil (peanut oil) or soya oil but medicinal grade olive oil which makes it more suitable for people with peanut or soya allergies.

How to use Cerumol Ear Drops

To use Cerumol Ear Drops, carefully follow these steps:

•          Tilt head sideways and put five drops into the affected ear, plug with cotton wool and leave for twenty minutes. Repeat two to three times a day for up to three days until the wax has cleared.

•          With the head tilted sideways, 5 drops are put into the ear. This may cause a harmless tingling sensation.

•          A plug of cotton wool moistened with Cerumol or smeared with petroleum jelly should then be applied to retain the liquid.

•          One hour later, or the next morning, the plug is removed.

•          The procedure is repeated twice a day for three days; the loosened wax may then come out on its own making syringing unnecessary.

•          If any wax remains the doctor should be consulted so that syringing of the softened residue may be carried out.

Warnings:

Do not use:

•          in hypersensitivity to arachis (peanut) oil, soya, or any of the other ingredients.

•          Otitis externa, seborrhoeic dermatitis and eczema affecting the outer ear.

•          Perforated ear drums, inflammation or infection in the ear

Not to be taken internally. Do not use for more than three days without consulting your doctor.
