Diligent Robotics to Expand Moxi System with $25 Million Funding

Diligent Robotics, a company that specializes in robotic systems, is set to significantly expand its Moxi robot system across the majority of its 22 health system clients following a substantial cash infusion of $25 million received on September 21st.

With this fresh injection of funding, Moxi has ambitious plans to triple its market presence over the course of the next two years. As per the company’s announcement, they intend to have over 100 of their robots operational in more than 30 hospitals by the end of this year. These robots are designed to navigate the corridors of healthcare facilities, where they perform a variety of tasks, including the delivery of supplies, medications, and equipment.

The funding round that facilitated this expansion was led by the venture capital firm Canaan, with participation from Northwestern Medicine Innovation. Northwestern Medicine, a health system based in Chicago, has already deployed Moxi robots at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to automate and schedule the collection of medications and non-tubable lab specimens. They have expressed plans to expand the use of Moxi robots throughout their entire system.

Doug King, the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Northwestern Medicine, emphasized the organization’s commitment to its “Patients First” mission. He stated that they continuously explore innovative technologies to support their clinicians and staff, ultimately enhancing their ability to provide exceptional care to patients. This suggests that the Moxi robots are seen as a valuable addition to their healthcare ecosystem.

Diligent Robotics’ client base extends beyond Northwestern Medicine and includes other prominent health systems and hospitals. For example, they serve NorthShore Edward-Elmhurst Health in Evanston, Illinois, MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, Washington, various University of Texas-affiliated health systems, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. This demonstrates a growing trend in the healthcare industry towards incorporating advanced robotics and automation to enhance patient care and improve operational efficiency.
