The white PLIVA 433 supplied by Major Pharmaceuticals contains Trazodone Hydrochloride 50 mg an antidepressant used to treat major depressive disorder.
PLIVA 433 belongs to a group of drugs called serotonin receptor antagonists and reuptake inhibitors (SARIs). While PLIVA 433 is not a true member of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) class of antidepressants, it does still share many properties of the SSRIs.

PLIVA 433 isn’t a sleeping pill and isn’t approved to treat insomnia. It’s used to treat depression and one of the side effects is drowsiness. There aren’t enough studies to show that PLIVA 433 should be used for sleep. Talk to your provider about other options if this is a concern for you.
How long does it take PLIVA 433 to work?
Some people will see improvement in mood within 1 to 4 weeks of taking PLIVA 433, but it can take a couple of months to feel its full effects. It’s possible to have side effects from PLIVA 433 before you see an improvement in your mood.
Is PLIVA 433 the same as alprazolam (Xanax)?
No. You might experience some of the same side effects while taking alprazolam (Xanax) or PLIVA 433, but the two medications belong to different medication classes. PLIVA 433 is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), while alprazolam (Xanax) is a benzodiazepine. They work on different chemicals in your brain to change your mood or behavior.
Can I drink alcohol while taking PLIVA 433?
While studies don’t show that PLIVA 433 raises the risk of the side effects of alcohol (e.g., drowsiness, mental alertness, coordination), it’s still not recommended to combine alcohol and PLIVA 433 in a person who has depression. Alcohol is considered a depressant and therefore can worsen some of the symptoms of depression.
Is PLIVA 433 safe to take while pregnant?
Taking PLIVA 433 in the third trimester of pregnancy can be harmful to your unborn baby. Babies may be born with movement disorders or withdrawal symptoms.
