Desenfriol-D: Uses, Ingredients, Dosage, Side Effects, COVID-19

Desenfriol-D is a combination medication containing chlorpheniramine maleate, phenylephrine hydrochloride, and acetaminophen. It is manufactured in Mexico by Salimex, S.A.

Each tablet of Desenfriol-D contains the following active ingredients:

  • Chlorpheniramine maleate 2.0 mg
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride 5.0 mg
  • Acetaminophen 500 mg

Desenfriol-D can be used in the treatment of the following conditions:

•          temporarily relieving the symptoms of hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies:

•          headache

•          sinus congestion and pressure

•          nasal congestion

•          runny nose and sneezing

•          minor aches and pains

•          temporarily relieves these additional symptoms of hay fever:

•          itching of the nose or throat

•          itchy, watery eyes

•          helps clear nasal passages

•          helps decongest sinus openings and passages

How should I take Desenfriol-D?

The recommended dosage of Desenfriol-D is as follows:

Adults and children 12 years and over: take 2 caplets every 4-6 hours, swallow whole – do not crush, chew or dissolve. Do not take more than 10 caplets in 24 hours.

What happens if I overdose?

In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away (1-800-222-1222). Quick medical attention is critical for adults as well as for children even if you do not notice any signs or symptoms.

Can I use Desenfriol-D for COVID 19?

No, even though studies have shown that some ingredients in this medication can inhibit infection of cells by the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, it is best to discuss with your doctor if you have tested positive for the coronavirus before using any medication. Regardless of vaccination status, follow the standard protocol or steps to care for yourself and to help protect other people in your home and community.

Desenfriol-D side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

In rare cases, acetaminophen may cause a severe skin reaction that can be fatal. This could occur even if you have taken acetaminophen in the past and had no reaction. Stop taking Desenfriol-D and call your doctor right away if you have skin redness or a rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling. If you have this type of reaction, you should never again take any medicine that contains acetaminophen.

Stop using the medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

•          fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeats;

•          confusion, severe dizziness, or drowsiness;

•          tremor, restless muscle movements;

•          little or no urinating;

•          flu symptoms, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath; or

•          nausea, pain in your upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Common side effects may include:

•          constipation;

•          dry eyes, blurred vision, dry mouth or nose;

•          mild dizziness or drowsiness, trouble concentrating;

•          feeling restless or excited (especially in children); or

•          mild skin rash.

What drugs can interact with Desenfriol-D?

Do not use Desenfriol-D with any other drug containing acetaminophen (prescription or nonprescription). If you are not sure whether a drug contains acetaminophen, ask a doctor or pharmacist. if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric, or emotional conditions, or Parkinson’s disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains an MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Do not use Desenfriol-D if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this product or any of its ingredients or to make a child sleepy.

Ask a doctor before use if you have

•          liver disease

•          heart disease

•          high blood pressure

•          thyroid disease

•          diabetes

•          trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland

•          a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis

•          glaucoma

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are

•          taking the blood-thinning drug warfarin

•          taking sedatives or tranquilizers

When using this product

•          do not exceed recommended dosage

•          excitability may occur, especially in children

•          drowsiness may occur

•          alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase drowsiness

•          avoid alcoholic drinks

•          be careful when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery

Stop using and ask a doctor if

•          nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness occur

•          pain or nasal congestion gets worse or lasts more than 7 days

•          fever gets worse or lasts more than 3 days

•          redness or swelling is present

•          new symptoms occur

These could be signs of a serious condition.

Can a pregnant or breastfeeding woman take Desenfriol-D?

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should discuss this with their doctor or healthcare provider before taking Desenfriol-D.
